Rakesh Govindasamy is a energy industry professional with  diverse experience in strategy, business development, innovation and product management. In his current role as Sr Director – Reference architecture for Bloom Energy, his focus is to develop and deploy best in class solutions around solid oxide fuel cell and electrolyzer technologies.

In this presentation Rakesh will talk about SOFC fuel cell based combined heat and power (CHP) systems that shall provide high efficiency and reliable power and heating/cooling solutions, aimed to effectively decarbonize critical industrial sectors.

Topic: Smart Energy Design Assistance Center Overview

Speaker: Shawn Maurer, P.E., C.E.M. Technical Director, SEDAC

Shawn Maurer has worked with SEDAC for 6 years, and became the Technical Director in the Spring of 2021. As the Technical Director, Shawn co-manages the Public Water Infrastructure Energy Assessments program and is a primary content developer for the Energy Codes Training Program. SEDAC is an energy efficiency and sustainability consulting research lab at the University of Illinois – Urbana-Champaign founded in 2004. The program’s primary mission is to reduce the carbon footprint of Illinois and beyond.

Mark Walter has been a Project Manager for Leidos Engineering since 2020. He specializes in Energy Efficient project identification design and implementation in Automotive and Industrial settings. He is currently wrapping up a heat recovery and steam elimination project at a large automotive manufacturing facility.

Derrick Sears has been in the UVC industry for 12 years. Working in roles from research, sales, product design, and industry speaker. Member of ASHRAE 62.1 IAQ, TC2.9 UVC, GPC37 Upper Air uvc. International UV association, and Airports International Commissioners  . Working hard to move the UVC industry forward by challenging manufacturers and ASHRAE to be accountable and set framework for UVC guidelines. With a strong passion for moving the UVC industry forward to help not only provide a safe space for facility occupants but also to provide cost efficient solutions to building operations as well as navigating the new ASHRAE 241 standard.

Topic: Resources for Electrifying Fleets

Speaker: Dr. Joy Piazza, Industry Relations Director, Illinois Alliance for Clean Transportation (IACT)

Dr. Piazza leads clean fuels and technologies industry and community relations for IACT.  IACT is a U.S. Department of Energy designated clean cities coalition that was for many years designated for the Chicago region but in December of 2022 was designated as Illinois’ statewide coalition. In addition to statewide efforts, she is also specifically the designated “man in the south” for the coalition.  Most recently she organized the inaugural Green Drives Edwardsville event on August 11, a 1-day, fleet-focused, low and zero emission alternative fuels, technologies, and supplier education and networking event.

APEC December 2022 Chapter Presentation Topic: Free Air Delivered Speaker: Jim Timmersman, V.P. Engineering, Power Supply Industries Jim Timmersman has been involved in the compressed air field for 41 years and leads the Engineering group at PSI and won the Illinois governors award for carbon reduction in 1999. PSI was performing energy studies long before Ameren energy incentives were offered. He was hired as a consultant to help Lockheed Martin become the first company to win the energy program in Peoria- helping Ameren get started in the energy reduction program. PSI has won trade ally of the year every year in either Ameren Illinois or Ameren Missouri since the program began. Their combined energy savings is over $40,000,000 in the Midwest alone.
